What is backwashing?

The biggest reason given by paper filter pushers is that it takes more water to backwash a filter than it does to wash a paper filter. I usually suggest to oversize filter so that filter only needs to be backwashed during the winter season which means you are draining extra rain water out of pool anyway.

How much Media do I use?

It actually uses less glass than if you were using sand

The pea gravel at the bottom is to keep flow to radials

Vitro Clean

Update your sand filter from 7 micron down to 3 micron,

There will be less often changing of media.

Zeolite

Is another type of media that can be added to your sand filter,

I have used it a few times but found that it leaves a residue.
